Hair and Beauty

Overview

Students will be introduced to the level 2 hairdressing course (VTCT).  Each student will be expected to complete four units of work and sit an examination per unit.

Year 9 students will start their first year covering preparation work that will lead them to the full level 2 course.

The level 2 course is then covered during years 10 and 11. Each student will also be expected to cover a practical certificate ranging from entry level up to level 3 which will run alongside their full level 2 qualification.

KS4 Curriculum

Year 9:

  • Term 1) Economic contribution with the hair and beauty industry
  • Term 2) Creating a positive impression within the salon
  • Term 3) Introducing hair styling
  • Term 4) Introducing the skin and hair structure
  • Term 5) Introducing health and safety
  • Term 6) Creating a professional image for the hairdressing industry

Year 10

  • Term 1) Understanding the hair and beauty sector
  • Term 2) Understanding the hair and beauty sector
  • Term 3) Enterprise in the hair and beauty sector
  • Term 4) Enterprise in the hair and beauty sector
  • Term 5) Hair and Beauty science
  • Term 6) Hair and Beauty science

Year 11

  • Term 1) Understanding the hair and beauty sector
  • Term 2) Enterprise in the hair and beauty sector
  • Term 3) Hair and Beauty science

  • Term 6) Hair and beauty research

KS4 Assessment

In years 9 and 10 there will be written assessments at the end of each term.

In year 11 exams will be taken throughout the year.
