Dear parents and carers
First of all, please let me thank you for your understanding this week. We are delighted to announce that the heating is now back on in both primary schools. However, it is likely to be Friday before we have full heating back on at St Hugh’s.
The students at both academies have been superb in their response to this very difficult situation, and have been able to continue their learning outside school. I met a student at the St Hugh’s gate tonight who said that she was missing school, but had done all her learning that had been set on Showbie.
At St Hugh’s, the mock exam timetable has run as planned, and we have been able to complete the after school club sessions. Staff have set a variety of activities on TT Rockstars, PIXL apps, Lit Charts, Memrise, SeeSaw and Showbie during the hours of closure. The number of hours learning on Sam Learning has been reviewed, and there have been 547 hours completed on that app alone. The decision to become a school of the 21st Century, and invest in new technology last year, has proved to be the right decision in so many ways, but this week has shown how it has really enabled learning to be seamless in quite extreme circumstances.
Students in Y2, 5 and 6 at St John’s have continued to attend school this week, and learning has been guided for the other year groups through information on the website.
Tomorrow starts the return to our usual timetable; the staff have really missed the students this week and are looking forward to all being together again, in warm classrooms!
Thanks again for the support and understanding of all our parents, carers, staff and perhaps more importantly, our wonderful students – they have been a credit to us all.
