‘There is a strong sense of purpose across the school’
The recent Ofsted monitoring visit on 28 November 2018 reports that St Hugh’s is, ‘taking effective action towards the removal of the serious weaknesses designation.’
Susan Dench, Executive Headteacher, who was described by the inspector as ‘instrumental’ in bringing about the change, was thrilled with the outcome of the report, “I have a great team of staff and directors who have worked tirelessly and passionately, over the last three years to build solid foundations of school improvement.” The report clearly states how leadership at all levels is effective, ‘The impact of leaders’ work is beginning to show though improving outcomes in core subjects and improvements in pupils’ attendance and behaviour.’
“Our fabulous pupils have been very much a part of this improvement journey; to see them achieve is everything to me. They are fortunate to have a wonderful environment where they are surrounded by quality staff, who support and nurture them to be their best selves. It was particularly pleasing to see that the inspector noted, ‘the drive and passion to improve provision for all pupils,’ in leaders, as well as the positive staff morale.
We approach everything as a school family, and that is why we are beginning to see these improvements: the team, including students, staff parents, carers and governors, are sharing in both the development and the success.”
Mrs Cherry Edwards OBE, Chair of the Board of Directors, commented, ‘In the time I have had the privilege to be associated with St Hugh’s as a director and Chair of the Board, I have seen our Executive Headteacher, Mrs Dench, and leaders work increasingly effectively with the support of the dedicated whole school team to make improvements in the quality of the education that we provide.’
Everyone linked to St Hugh’s can take pride in the outcomes of this report, as well as the ongoing successes that we continue to see on a daily basis, as we follow our plan to ensure continued consistency and success for our school community.
